Detainees’ families hope that the royal grant would cover Hirak leaders on Eid al-Adha

Forty Hirak detainees, including their main leaders, are still serving prison sentences, even after a third royal grant covered some prisoners who were convicted for participating to protests in the Rif region, their families told EFE.

While 60 Hirak detainees were granted a pardon by King Mohammed VI, Tuesday, on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, sources from the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) and Tafra association, created by Hirak detainees’ families, told EFE that at least twenty other Rif activists were granted pardon, but were not listed as political prisoners because they committed offences punishable by law.  

Tafra's vice-president, Boubker Yauhari, told EFE that there were no requests for a royal pardon from detainees. To the vice-president, the «solution» to what he calls a «deteriorated and unstable political climate» now will be only achieved when Hirak’s main leaders are released.

All eyes are now on the two upcoming holidays : Eid al-Adha in August and the Throne Day on July 30, in which King Mohammed VI usually grants his pardon to many prisoners.
