Morocco is committed to promoting the use of renewable energy and sustainable transportation. It is the idea of a reportage broadcasted by Deutsche Welle, Germany’s public international broadcaster. Traveling to Marrakech, the crew of the program called Eco@Africa draws attention to the green mobility plan, a concept that invaded the city and was translated into a biking project.

Discovering the initiative, 4 minutes-video shows the example of Othmane Irbayine, a young waiter who makes use of bike-sharing project entitled «Madina bike» to go to work. «It is simple, you have a code and you just need to know how to use it properly, that’s it», replied Irbayine when asked about the way to use the bike.

The initiative founded by Lebna ElHakim, puts 300 bikes across the city enabling tourists and the local population to use a sustainable means of transportation for 50 Euros a year. The project was backed by the government «which is keen to make the country more environmental friendly», the same source recalls.

The German channel’s crew also visited a green energy park 30 minutes away from Marrakech to meet Kaoutar Benabdelaziz, an engineer that works on promoting the use of electric cars in Morocco. Speaking to DW, the young woman hopes that Moroccans would accept driving this kind of cars indicating that the prices of these vehicles should be reduced.
