Volubilis, an excavated Roman city near Meknes will host a set of regional training courses on the conservation and management of Archaeological sites with mosaics organized by Mosaikon and the Moroccan Ministry of Culture.

The training is performed through a partnership bringing together the Ministry of Culture and Getty Conservation Institute (GCI). The course includes two workshops, according to a communiqué issued by the Ministry.

The courses that started on April the 10th, aim to enhance the knowledge and skills of site managers and others in charge with the daily maintenance of archaeological sites that contain mosaics and zellij. The workshop is based on four main theoretical and practical parts. The same source indicates that the first part is scheduled  from the 10th to the 5th of May.

The second workshop will allow participants to carry out individual projects at their site, home or institution to restore the archeological heritage.

For the record, Mosaikon is a regional initiative dedicated to improving the conservation and management of mosaics in the southern and eastern Mediterranean region. It is a partnership of the Getty Conservation Institute, the Getty Foundation, the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation, the Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) in Rome, the International Committee for the Conservation of Mosaics (ICCM).
