Algeria's top General reiterates support for Polisario on Moroccan border visit

On Monday, January 15th, Algerian army Chief of Staff General Said Chengriha visited the 2nd military region in Oran, close to the Moroccan border. During the visit, he emphasized Algeria's unwavering support for the Polisario Front.

«Algeria, having suffered under colonialism, will remain committed to just causes worldwide, particularly Palestine and Western Sahara», he declared in a speech. «We are actively pursuing a solution through legitimate means and international law», he added.

This statement echoes President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's December 25th address, where he reaffirmed Algeria's «unwavering support» for the Polisario, deeming it a «national cause» akin to that of Palestine. He further declared these two issues to be the «pillars of foreign policy» during Algeria's Security Council seat from January 2024 to December 2025.
